The project “Management and promotion of the digital content concerning the intangible and tangible cultural and historical capital of the monumental ensemble of the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin in Rhodes” was implemented by the Holy Metropolis of Rhodes.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

A central core in the planning and development of the project is the formation of an integrated digital repository of knowledge, history and culture, including all the manifestations of the historical and cultural capital concerning the monument of the Annunciation of the Virgin, which remains part of the living history of the island and of the Dodecanese. The cultural repository is digitally available and electronically accessible via the internet, respecting the monument, the historical memory, and the multicultural heritage of the island.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

The goal of the project is the rescue, promotion, and exploitation of this important cultural capital and its “opening” to the public, regardless of geographical boundaries, in order to preserve the historical memory of modern Rhodian history. In addition, the project aims to digitally connect the monument with the history and the vibrant urban and tourist life of the city. In addition to these, the implementation of the project significantly upgrades the services offered to the island’s visitors, contributing to its further touristic development, and attracting visitors with historical, religious and cultural interests.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

The Holy Metropolis of Rhodes preserves a huge and important cultural capital which includes numerous early Christian relics and other relics of great value, monuments inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and a special category of ecclesiastical monuments built by the Italian administration during the period of the Italian occupation, with a prominent example being that of the church of the Annunciation of the Virgin, in Eleftherias Square in Mantraki, Rhodes.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

The project “Management and promotion of the digital content concerning the intangible and intangible cultural and historical capital of the monumental ensemble of the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin of Rhodes” was financed by the EPANEK 2014-2022 program (Competitiveness Entrepreneurship Innovation Operational Program) of the NSRF 2014 -2022.<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”fullimg”]\"photo\"[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]\r\n

The archival material and visual evidence come mainly from the archive of the Metropolis of Rhodes, from archival sources, archives of collectors and institutions, as well as from the use of crowdsourcing methods, and has been granted for the needs of the Digital Museum of the Cathedral of the Annunciation.
