3D Storytelling

The 3D rendering of the monumental complex of the Holy Church of the Annunciation virtually transports and guides the visitor through the history of the church, but also of its predecessor, the now destroyed church of Agios Ioannis in Kollakion, of the medieval city of Rhodes.

The journey begins with the conquest of the island by the Crusaders and presents the medieval church of Saint Ioannis in Mandraki, Rhodes, which was the model for the construction of the new church. It continues with the period between the wars, where the church was built and functioned as the Roman Catholic Church of Saint John and then with the first post-war period where the church was transformed, redecorated and acquired its modern liturgical use.

A journey through two different uses and periods, a journey with rich audio-visual material from the recent and contemporary history of the land and the complex.

“I remember…, I remember as if it were yesterday…, although I was very young, I will not forget…” These phrases of the information providers as well as their cheerful nostalgic look, was similar to a person flipping through an old album and “recalling nostalgic memories from oblivion”. It gave the idea and essentially dictated that this video should take the form of an “album of short, unpretentious video testimonies” that often complement the testimony or the impression of another information provider on the same subject.

The script of the short documentary entitled “Recalling… memories from oblivion” really tries to record and offer to the public this nostalgic recall of memories from oblivion; memories often not so pleasant, which nonetheless portray the unknown living history of the land and the monument in a flawless way.

It is this recent experiential memory of residents, full of unknown details that history does not usually record that we ‘hover through’, in the form of self-contained yet complementary narratives placed in an ‘old cloth album’ and framed by archival material. Viewers are invited to watch it unfolding before them.
